Dear Basha, 
Glad to hear that your grandpa is doing research on the plant. Many Bio-labs now doing their research on this plant to find the genome giving this plant a wonderful nature to stand from any waterless/dry conditions. I've many people's research papers over this plant. Seleginella is really a wonderful plant by its nature and medicinal values.
Note: Still many people asking me what 'tests' I've done.... (like some black-magic tests what I hate to listen) when there are real people who know about the actual characteristics of this plant (like your grandpa), they only will identify why they are doing their research over this plant. So, once again I'm urging this forum, please see the things by its natural phenomena and actual use and rarity of the thing.
