Battery test ! How to perform (General)

sir, i guess i tried something like that with my 5 Rs Deshmukh Note. i had a LED torch with 3 AA batteries. i removed the glass of torch and then i placed the note n face of the torch.. but seems nothing happend . i kept this for 30 minutes but i dont see any difference.
where am i doing wrong ??
